Data Compression

Well known data compression techniques are evaluated.  For this, starting from introduction to information theory, the subjects of entropy coding, variable length coding, Huffman, Shannon-Fano, Arithmetic, Lempel-Ziv coding, RLE, transform coding, image transforms used in compression, JPEG, MPEG and vector quantization are discussed.

We will have 3-4 homework exams (mostly coding in Octave) to be evaluated for grading.
